Last week Jeff and I hosted an outreach to our neighborhood kids. We have been having local prayer meetings every month since January and taking walks to pray and talk with people but this was our first group outreach. There are about 400 townhomes and 24 apartment buildings that surround our townhome so you know there are lots of kids! The outreach lasted from Tuesday to Friday night. The first three nights were primarily for the kids and then the last night was primarily for the parents. About 20 kids showed up each night for games, snacks, worship, small group bible discussions, ministry times and then prizes. Then the last night 3 parents came to bbq with us and to see all the kids receive their final prizes. We had kids from the ages of 6-17. There were 20 friends that labored with us to pull this off and they were awesome! Many of them put in 20hrs of ministry on top of their 50hr commitments at IHOPKC! The goal of the Bible discussion the first night was to get them to realized Jesus was the creator of everything, He is joyful, He likes them and they must experience Him daily to be satisfied. The second night our goal was to reinforce Jesus’ heart but to make them aware of the the huge issue of sin that separates us from such a joyful God and to tell the good news that sin has been removed if they will chose Him. The goal of the third night was to teach them about the power of prayer but we changed things up last minute. We taught them the rest of the Gospel, that Jesus rose from the dead, He is in heaven, that He will come back and fix the earth and that they will raise from the dead at His coming. Their understanding and questions were amazing! Kids can understand profound things too.
Six kids gave their lives to the Lord and a few others said they already had a relationship with the Lord. All six said they wanted to be baptized when it works out and ten of them wanted to join a weekly bible study that some of our friends are hosting. We have 3 bible studies going through the week for the kids that friends host or we host. It takes some effort and snacks to get them there but we hope to see it grow so that they can start inviting their friends and impacting them little by little. Bethany has been contacting some of the single mothers and they are interested in learning more about Jesus and the Bible.
Testimonies will be in another blog and pictures of the week will come in the next couple days! Check out the Grandview Prayer Link for a few pics.
